Checking it Twice

As the holiday season approached us, the excitement was building.  And I’m not just talking about the kids!

TT Dad and I were looking forward to seeing how the duo would react to everything this year.  An unspoken agreement existed- we’d tackle as many holiday events as we could while we were around.

First up on our long list of ‘festivents’- I took the kids to the mall to visit Santa.

Yes, this was first.  Terrible planning or stroke of genius?  To be determined.  But there was absolutely no line, which gave Santa & Mrs. Claus a few extra minutes to try to help my kids feel a little more comfortable with the whole thing.

When I say Santa & Mrs. Claus were professionals-  I’m not just stating the obvious.  They were on a different level.  They let the kids stand in front of them as they chatted and asked the kids what they wanted for Christmas.  Before anyone else knew what was going on, they scooped up my duo and plop- right on the lap.

The result is a picture of my kids looking somber.  Definitely a step up from screaming. We’ll take it!

Our second stop was to Lake Compounce, for their holiday lights extravaganza.  Prior to entry, we drove around looking at lights all around town.  The kiddos started to get really excited about seeing lights and other decorations so we figured they were ready for the park.

As an added bonus, the kids were finally old enough to ride most of the kiddie rides They loved every minute and didn’t want to leave!  The park wasn’t terribly crowded, and being so early in the season, the weather wasn’t terribly cold, either!  Win-WIN!

The weekend after Thanksgiving was also spent decorating outside, and inside the house.  As usual, we had two very excited helpers with this task.  They helped by choosing where to put each decoration, and even holding it while Daddy secured them!  Those three made a great team!

Another wonderful annual event is the winter party thrown by my local Multiples of America affiliate- Multiples of Greater Hartford.  We love getting together will all the families, and having a chance to catch up, do some crafts, and grab a professional photo or two.  Heather and Roger from Defining Studios are members of our club, and they are kind enough to work a little (lot) during our party!  What a treat!
