Babies’ First Beach! 1

Finally, we were setting off to enjoy the beach part of our little vacation road trip!  As you probably guessed, we took off at start of the duo’s morning nap, and headed east.  A couple of hours later, the kids were waking up, and we were crossing the bridge into Wrightsville Beach, NC.  It was my first time, but will definitely not be my last.

The plan was to spend four days visiting with TT Dad’s sister, and her husband.  TT Dad’s parents would be joining us, as well.  TT Dad’s parents had recently bought a lot right down the street from TT Dad’s sister and husband, and were in the beginning stages of building a house.

When we arrived, we moved all of our belongings into the guest room, set up the pack and plays, and settled in.  Auntie showed us all the fun beach accessories she had for us to play with-  bath toys, an inflatable fishy pool, and more!   We couldn’t wait, so we inflated the pool, and filled it (a little) with water.   The duo put on their swim suits, and jumped right in-  okay, they were placed in gently, but if they could have jumped, I am pretty sure they would have!

I think they spent more time in this pool than they did out of it.  It was a wonderful addition to our multitudes of beach equipment.  The fish mouth provides a good amount of shade, and the windows help to allow fresh air.  They did scoot themselves around a bit, discovering how fun it was to splash each other!

Auntie let us borrow a little infant float to use in the sound.  Zoey loved it!  She splashed her little feet, and laughed the whole time. It felt sturdy enough, but we stayed by her side at all times.  Garrett wasn’t quite sure, but he seemed to also enjoy it.

The duo were treated to their first ride on Auntie and Uncle’s boat.  We had bought PFDs for the duo before leaving, and had them delivered to Auntie and Uncle’s house.  Overall, it took them a mintue to realize they really liked it!  It probably didn’t help that they hadn’t ever tried the PFDs on before the boat ride.  We will definitely be letting them try them on, and get used to them, before heading on the boat next summer.

We spent one day at the ocean beach.  The duo did really well.  We inflated their pool, and filled it with ocean water.  They splashed around and tired themselves out, and then ended up taking a long nap inside a tent canopy, which was very helpful.  It had open mesh sides, allowing a nice breeze to flow through the shelter, but also protected them from the hot sun.

Still in their infant bucket car seats, we used the Double Snap ‘N’ Go for walks, including on the sandy beach.  It wasn’t the best in the sand, and we eventually abandoned the idea.  We carried the folded up stroller and babies until we reached more solid ground. Please let us know if you have suggestions for the future!

All in all, our baby gear worked well for our beach vacation.  The fishy pool came home with us, and has gotten quite a bit of use!

Next up, we’ll wrap up the trip, discussing a few other places we checked out in Wrightsville Beach, as well as our trip home!
