A New Era

It’s never fun to pack up and leave the beach- but perhaps that’s why we do such a poor job of getting everything packed up!  We always leave a handful of reminders behind. Poor Oma and Opa probably have to go room by room picking up all of our forgotten belongings.

My mind was elsewhere, to say the least.  We arrived home on a Tuesday evening, so we could settle in at home on Wednesday- because the kids had their first day of Nursery School on Thursday!  It was Open House style- so we were able to join them for about an hour, while they got to explore their classroom, meet some of their new classmates, and get to know their teacher-  Mrs. P.

It took quite a bit of preparation, but they were finally excited for school.

For me, on the other hand-  I was equal parts excited and nervous.  I mean, the closest the duo had ever been to this type of environment was two days in daycare at a couple of ski resorts!  I was so excited for them to have classmates.  For them to begin to find out who they are when they are not under my supervision.  For them to get to do fun things that I hadn’t figured out how to do with two toddlers!

At the same time, I was nervous.  I was about to be faced with the first real test of my parenting skills.  What if they refused to cooperate, or started to exhibit some negative behaviors?  For the first time, I had no real way of knowing what they were up to- without someone else telling me.

Last, but not least, there was the idea that I was about to have 5 hours a week that would be unplanned, unstructured, alone time.  I could schedule appointments, or start to schedule some self-care.

I was still working with my trainer three days a week. One of those days would be a school day, so it was helpful that their school was located in the same place as my trainer!

The Open House was fun, and we met a number of the other kids- including another sets of twins!  Mrs P. made a good first impression, making time to spend just a bit of one on one time with each child, as well as interact with the parents.

The duo seemed to be really excited about returning, and playing with all the fun toys they saw at school.

But first, we had to pack up, again.  We were off to spend the better part of a week on the Cape with Nonie, Pops, and family!
