I got home from my Vegas outing on Monday morning, and we left for our beach trip on Tuesday after nap. What a whirlwind.
Basically, I was home long enough to be very thankful that we’d anchored the furniture in the duo’s bedroom.
We left on Tuesday afternoon, stopping just before leaving CT for dinner and to change into Jammies. The kids did really well, and were in very good spirits up until they fell asleep, and we made pretty good time. We stopped for a quick nap for all of us, and made it to the beach around breakfast time on Wednesday. This was the first time we’d attempted to leave in the afternoon, instead of at night. There was definitely a little more traffic that evening, getting through NY, but in general, the trip went well. The issues were not because of the kids, which was surprising.
We were really excited about this trip, as we usually are when we get to spend time with Oma & Opa. For the first time our visit was squeezed in between time constraints- Vegas on one end, and the kids’ first day of school on the other! It was so hard to wrap my head around the idea that our days of freedom were coming to an end. They would just be going two mornings a week, but it was still ‘school’ and a routine I am not willing to mess with, without good reason.
Determined to make the most of this trip to the beach, we were lucky to share the visit with some of Oma & Opa’s friends, who seemed to handle the kiddo’s boisterous nature quite well.
We had some lovely weather, and tried to take advantage of it, with a few boat trips, and beach trips, and lots of swimming. We also found time to get back to the Wilmington Railroad Museum, which was still a HUGE hit.
Another new adventure was our visit to the Wrightsville Beach Touch Tank! We absolutely loved it. There was something for everyone. The touch tank was fantastic, staffed by very knowledgeable people, coloring pages, stuffed animals and puppets, and reading material. I’m so sad it took us this long to get there!
For the most part, this trip was a little more relaxed, with most of our days spend near the house, on the water. It was the perfect way to spend the final days of summer before we would send the kids off to their first every day of school!
