Our last Hurrah in California

Time to check out of our hotel, and start making our way back towards home… ish.  But more on that later.

We took our time getting out the door-  TTDad finished packing, and then took advantage of the hotel gym while the duo and I walked around downtown, looking for a breakfast spot.  I’m not sure exactly what I was looking for- but we ended up at Subway.  What a bummer. I was really excited to try a new local spot, but just couldn’t find anything that really looked like a good fit.

After a disastrous attempt at breakfast, we walked back to the hotel, were TT Dad had already retrieved the car, and filled it with our gear.  What service!

We hit the road once again.  This time, we were headed to Napa.

TT Dad had done the research this time, and had found a vineyard he wanted to check out.  Things were moving along pretty smoothly, until we hit Highway 12/Rt 121.  Traffic just stopped.  The kids have become really spectacular car ride passengers-  but even now, they have their limits, as we learned on this trip.

More than a half hour, in an stationary car, is one of them.

Luckily, we’ve gotten really good at shifting our plans in a split second, so when we saw a sign for ‘The Boon Fly Cafe‘ we hopped right into that turn lane, and found our way to the Carneros Inn.  At the Inn, we followed signs to the Boon Fly Cafe, and easily found a parking spot.  How adorable was this spot.  There were pockets of people waiting on the porch, or across the driveway, in a little seating area.

We checked in, to find a wait of approximately an hour.

It didn’t take long for us to confirm that an hour wait with room to run was better than who knows how long of a wait in a motionless car.  Add that to the fact that we’d need to be stopping for lunch sometime soon, anyway, and we were sold.
They had coloring pages/kids menus, and crayons, which kept the kids occupied for a long time.  After that, we took the porch swing for a test ride, and did a little exploring.  Finally, it was our turn.

This restaurant did not disappoint.  The food was delicious.  I wish I had paused long enough to take a photo or two, but we highly recommend the Boon Fly Cafe!
Everything was perfect.

After filling our bellies, the road seemed to have cleared a bit, so we hopped back in the car, and made our way towards the vineyard TTDad had picked out.  On the way, we realized that we had perhaps bit off a bit more than we could chew, so we ended up stopping at Etude.  Etude was under construction, but we easily found our way to the tasting room.  We split a tasting, which was a good idea, since the kids were with us- and they weren’t following proper tasting etiquette.

In reality, they were extremely well behaved, but after a few tastes, I knew we were pushing it, so I let TTDad finish up the tasting, and I took the kids outside to play (while I took in the scenery.)  Breathtakingly gorgeous.
TT Dad has rave reviews of the wine- and the employees.  They were friendly and extremely knowledgeable.  If we were to do this again, I’m thinking it would have made more sense to pack a picnic, and just share a bottle while the kids played.  There was plenty of green space to let the kids run around.

Next up- we were back to the airport, to return our rental stroller, rental car, and begin the final portion of this trip-  or at least this leg of our trip…
