Off-Season Beach

We didn’t have much time at home before we were on the road again.  This time we were going to attempt something we’d always wanted to do…  a ‘friend-cation,’ if you will.

Friends of ours, J&M were married on Cape Cod in September of 2015. They rented a house for their wedding and honeymoon, right near the venue.  The house is across the street from a beach access point, and was large enough to house their closest friends and family..  We were lucky enough to be invited, and we had an absolute blast.

J&M had been in contact with the owner of the house, and had been able to arrange an anniversary rental.  J&M asked if we’d like ot join them for the long weekend, and we jumped on the opportunity.

There were plenty of things about this trip that made me nervous, in addition to my typical travel nerves.  What if we didn’t share a vacation vibe? What if they wanted to zig, when we wanted to zag?  What if their two dogs didn’t get along with Marley?  Did they really understand what it would be like to vacation with two toddler twins?  What if the kids decided to turn into complete monsters?

I was hoping our friendship would be able to overcome any vacation snags, but you just never know.

I’m here to say, it was a success.  We are all still friends, and have even discussed making it an annual event.

We spent a lot of time at the beach, and the kids finally seemed to kick there aversion to sand.  The dogs all got along fabulously, and the kids keep their destruction level on low. We did spend some time apart, both as couples, and as guys/girls, which worked out really well.  We cooked some meals at home, and we went out to eat for others.  It worked out really well.

There is really something special about the Cape in the off-season… and I imagine it’s that way in most beach communities.  We had the beach to ourselves, and rarely ran into traffic.  Such a change from our mid-summer trips with the PMC.

It was also a change from most of our trips.  We enjoyed quite a bit of downtime, and really enjoyed hanging out together, as a family, and with our friends.  It’s so rare that we have time to just be together.

It was just the refreshing weekend we needed to delve back into our crazy world of go, go, go!
