Day Trips in NC

As we settled into our routine, we were so excited to spend some extra time with TT Dad.  Oma and Opa had scouted out some outings for us that were the perfect addition to our nice relaxing visit.

Not too far from Wrightsville, you’ll find the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.   The Aquarium is filled with exhibits, a touch tank, and other habitats.  We were able to catch feeding time for the box turtles, and compare those with the life-sized sea turtle on display!

The Aquarium was full of fun and exciting things to explore.  Both kids had a blast, and probably would have lasted a lot longer than we let them!  On our way out, we let them run off some steam in the playground-  a wonderful feature!

Our morning at the Aquarium was capped off by lunch down the beach.  We stopped at Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar, in Kure Beach.  The food was absolutely delicious-  Fish Tacos for almost everyone!  One tip we’ve learned about beach vacationing-  restaurants on piers are a sure thing.  The kids love walking up and down the pier, and checking out the water, the birds, and the people (people watchers, just like their mother!)  This helps us to enure a wait of any length, no matter how tired, hungry (hangry, even), or cranky they may be.

We relied once again on the dreaded car nap to get us through to the afternoon.  Any remaining crankiness was quickly washed down by a donut and glass of milk.  Oma and Opa had stopped  at Wake N Bake Donuts, in Carolina Beach, on the way home, and surprised us with a dozen delicious rounds.

We had a few other outings as well, but the Aquarium was a hit!  We will definitely be back there on a future visit!
