Before we knew it, June was almost over. We were able to sneak a few more adventures in before saying goodbye to June (and heading out on our first overnight of the summer!) Of course, we hit up Lake Compounce, a few neighborhood parks, including our favorite splash pads, and we took full advantage of our inflatable fishy pool.
One beautiful Saturday, we headed to the shore, to check out a local favorite- Abbot’s Lobster In the Rough. We found what was possibly the last parking space in the lot, and found our way to the line for ordering. We had a feeling this was a sign.
The line moved quickly, which is always a good thing with two hungry and antsy toddlers. They werThis wase entertained by the lobster tank and before we knew it, we were finding a table to sit at. We have a tendency to go with the first table we find, and more often than not, we regret that decision. It always seems like a good one at the time, though. One of these days, we’ll learn. I hope. .
This was no exception.
We grabbed that first table, and found ourselves in a porch type room, screened in, and just next to the area where you pick up your food. TTDad got our drinks, and it didn’t take long before he was off to grab our food. Between the four of us, we devoured a crab roll, a lobster roll, an ear of corn, a cup of clam chowder, a Shrimp in the Rough, a grilled cheese, and a peanut butter and jelly. Everything was delicious.
We were actually embarrassed it took us so long to get here…
After eating, we decided to step outside, near the water. That’s when we found the real outdoor seating. There were so many outdoor picnic tables, and patio tables, and even a large dock, used to deliver fresh caught fish and lobster, but also used as more seating.
The kids were completely amazed by the water, the people, the view, the boats, and the birds!
Definite win- and to top it all off, we found a fantastic playground to run off some energy before hitting the road to go back home. The Tercentennial Legacy Playground, in Groton, CT, has multiple playscapes, allowing for kids of all ages and abilities to join the fun!
Of course, the swings were a hit, but the kids loved the slides, and manipulative play areas as well.
In addition to the playground, there were large fields for the kids to run around in, that most likely are used for soccer games. A track circled the fields, as well.
We successfully tired the duo out enough to get a good car nap out of them on the way home.
Coming up… We’re headed north!
