When Daddy’s Away, In Providence, We Play!

TT Dad had a little bit more business to attend to, so the duo and I decided to give McCormick & Schmick’s one more chance, after the mediocre experience TT Dad and I had the night before.  We realize that ordering steak to go is not exactly the best way to enjoy such a high quality meal, so we wanted to give them an opportunity to show us how delicious the food could be.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the cards.

We were seated almost immediately-  or at least, I was.  We waited a while for the requested high chairs.   I waved someone down, and finally got the kids seated.  Our hostess had dropped off crayons for the kids, as well, so that helped to entertain them while we waited for a server to check in on us.

I didn’t check the time as we sat down, but at some point, it felt like we had maybe been overlooked.  We were sitting in a competely empty section, out of sight from the hostess stand.  We saw multiple tables sit down, order, and get their food before I was able to wave someone down again, to get our drink order taken- and actually receive menus to decide what to order.

Of course, once we had someone’s attention, I wasn’t going to let them go.  I put in our entire order as they stood there.  They did not have any real kids menu, so I pieced together a few foods I hoped they would at least pretend to eat.  I did pretty well, and a couple of pancakes later, we were back to our room, to pick up the stroller to help us get to our intended destination!

The kids were itching for some good old fashioned energy release-  a playground.  We found one that was a mile away from the hotel, so after breakfast, we headed that direction.  What we failed to notice, was that the Brown St Park Playground was approximately a mile away-  uphill.  It was a long mile- pushing two 25 lb kids in that stroller-  remember, we had the tandem (City Select) and not the SBS!

We made it.. finally, and the kids were very happy with our choice. In addition to the toddler sized playgound, and the playground for older kids, there were numerous climbing structures, and a sand box.  The entire park was fenced in, which is always a bonus when the kids outnumber the parents.

We also noticed some people coming to the park to work-out.  The park had a separate area filled with structures meant for exercise- including gymnastic rings.  It really seemed like this park had something for everyone.

TT Dad gave us a call to let us know he was finished with his work, so he came to pick us up.  We decided to grab lunch in the Federal Hill area.  After driving up and down, we settled on Sicilia’s Pizza. By this time, we were hungry, and it was getting late.  We ordered a pizza for us, and some spaghetti for the kids, with milk.  This was an absolutely entertaining experience-  even thought I’m not sure that was intentional.  The server was trying to explain how she could give us two kid milks, but they ran out of kid milks, so she could split one large milk between two glasses for the kids.  I’m not quite sure what that all meant, but we ended up with two milks, so we were happy.  We wanted a stuffed pizza for the two of us, but she seemed confused by our order, and kept telling us that wasn’t a special.  Again.  Not sure why that was a big deal, but okay.  Not a special.  Can you do it?  Yes?   Good.  We know it’s not a special, and we’re okay with that.  I promise.

The food was good enough to make up for all that confusion.  We gobbled it up, and headed back to the hotel to pack up the car.  Our time in Providence had come to an end.  I’m glad we made it there- and I’d go back.  We’d love to give the Zoo a fair shot, and perhaps to check out a few other attractions that aren’t right downtown.

We didn’t have too long to dwell on this trip, however.  We had a busy month coming up..  First up was our first attempt at being a Flower Girl & Ring Bearer! Soon after, we’d be tackling Potty Training.  Things were getting crazy over here!
