After a couple of weeks back at home, we were feeling the itch. It was time to find somewhere new to explore.
We took advantage of a Trade Show, and ended up in Providence, RI. If you remember, I had been to Newport just a month or so before this trip- for a bachelorette weekend for one of my very dear friends, and roommate. A few weeks after our RI weekend, the duo would be joining her for her big day, as her Flower Girl and Ring Bearer.
This trip would prove to have some of the same elements… Just kidding. It would be a very different weekend, indeed!
Providence is approximately 2 hours away from our home, by car. The decision to make this a family trip was made fairly last minute, so we did some quick research to put together a general plan, but there weren’t many specifics determined ahead of time.
We booked a suite (as usual) at the Providence Biltmore. The Biltmore is a historical hotel, and is absolutely loaded with character. We were very happy with our room. Being so historic, the HVAC system is not quite what we are used to. This was an unusually rainy and cold weekend, and we were informed upon arrival the the system can be set to heat or A/C, for the entire building. They weren’t slated to switch to heat for another few weeks, so they apologized, and offered to bring us portable heaters. We were perfectly happy with the room temp, even without heat- although I imagine they have had their fair share of unhappy guests due to this feature (or lack there-of).
On our way to the Biltmore, we first made a quick lunch stop at the Union Station Brewery. Next, we stopped at the Roger Williams Park Zoo. Our planning was clearly flawed, as we arrived at the zoo approximately 35 minutes before close. We took a very quick jaunt through the zoo. It was completely decked out for Halloween, and we were surprisingly tempted to make a return trip closer to Halloween.
We checked in at the hotel, then went on a walk to try to catch Water Fire. We ducked into a little restaurant for some flatbread before heading back to the hotel.
Sunday plans included Brunch, a walk to the Children’s museum, and more walking. On Monday, TT Dad had to get to the Trade Show, so the duo and I had breakfast, and visited the mall.
Once TT Dad came back, we went straight out to the park outside our hotel.
Our final day was spent at a nearby playground, and then TT Dad picked us up, and we headed out for lunch.
More details coming soon!
