First stop… Roanoke, VA.

After fourteen years of making the trek from CT to Roanoke, I was pretty familiar with the drive.  We decided to drive through the night, as usual, in order to take advantage of the longest stretch of sleep possible for the duo.  At that point, Zoey was sleeping consistently through the night, but Garrett was still waking once or twice.

The car was completely packed, and we were ready to go by dinner. Shortly after feeding them dinner, we did a modified bedtime routine, complete with diapers, jammies, books, and a feeding.

Instead of letting them fall asleep on me, however, we buckled them into their car seats and we were on our way.

The drive itself was pretty uneventful.  I drove most of the way, but took a little break in the wee hours, and TT Dad took over.  The duo woke up around 3 am to eat, and settled back down pretty quickly.  They slept until 5:30 or 6ish, but by that time we were pretty close to Roanoke.

Expecting an early arrival time, and finding a spectacular rate, we had added a night on at the beginning of our hotel reservation at the Mainstay Suites- Roanoke Airport.  In this instance, it was quite helpful.  We were able to get into the room, let the kids roll around to explore, and stretch out a bit while we settled in, then they could take their morning naps in the room.

In general, we had an excellent experience at the Mainstay Suites.  The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating.  We had a living area, and a bedroom with a door, along with a kitchenette.  With two 7 month olds, all of this was useful.  We were able to set up a play area in the living room, fit both pack and plays in the bedroom, although there wasn’t too much room for anything else, and the kitchen came in handy for two littles who were still beginning eaters.

While most of the weekend was spent between events at the school, the hotel, and catching up with old friends, we all had a lovely time.  It was a whirlwind visit, but before we knew it, we were on our way to our next stop:  Cary, NC.
