Believe it or not, as the kids have gotten older, sometimes it’s even more difficult to get out of the house.
I know.
I was so convinced it would get easier. And in many ways, it has. But having kids who can walk, run, and do so often (in opposite directions, if possible) throws an added level of difficulty into the mix.
This means our best laid plans- ‘We’ll get up early, and get out of the house right after breakfast, hoping to get to Baltimore in time for a late lunch!’ turns into a much longer version of ‘We’ll get on the road at some point mid-morning, and then realize we need to stop for lunch long before we hit Maryland, meaning we will arrive mid-afternoon.’
Great start to our weeekend!
The up side was we fit in an extra Children’s Museum… The Garden State Discovery Museum!
The later start also provided a bit more traffic than we probably would have met up with had we gotten on the road earlier. Ultimately, it didn’t matter much, as we hadn’t made any real plans for our Saturday afternoon in Baltimore. Sunday was a different story, but we’ll get to that.
We arrived on Saturday, and headed straight for the inner harbor. We loaded up the kids in the double stroller, and took a nice stroll up and down the water side. We checked out the different street entertainment shows going on, and did some people watching. We stopped for an early dinner at McCormick and Schmick’s Grill. The food was good, but was vastly overshadowed by the service. We were surrounded by larger groups, and let’s be honest. A table with two adults, and two toddlers in a seafood and steak restaurant is probably not a priority. They didn’t blink an eye, and bent over backwards to take care of us, and the duo.
After filling our bellies, we stopped at your friendly neighborhood mega store to pick up some gear for our big outing the next day, as well as some goodies for our hotel room… which was our next destination.
Once we had checked in, and let the duo get the lay of the land, it was just about time to say goodnight. They really do so well going to bed in strange places. This could be attributable to either the fact that they are used to their pack and plays, and sleeping in hotel rooms, or that we have built a strong bedtime routine, and it helps them to feel secure wherever they are. The jury is out!
After they were tucked in and sleeping soundly, TT Dad ran out to pick up some snacks for our hotel room date night, but we didn’t last all that much longer than the duo!
We had a big day coming up!
