Remembering How to ‘US.’

While we love traveling as a family, we also like to find time to enjoy being a couple.  More often than not, this time is not necessarily an after thought, but also not necessarily a priority. We do our best to fit in date nights as we can, but it isn’t always easy!

PMC weekend is dedicated ‘us’ time each year, but we’re also very busy doing PMC things, and catching up with our PMC family.

You may recall, from this post, that we spent our anniversary in NYC with Oma and Opa.  While there, we fell for the hype, and agreed to sit through a time share presentation for two nights in the city at an unbelievable rate.   I’m not joking.  The rate was absolutely unbelievable. I’ve paid more for one night in a podunk town, unbelievable.

As luck (and our schedule) would have it, it made the most sense to book this date weekend towards the end of July.  You know, the weekend before PMC weekend.

Oops.

Did you forget?  We often struggle with moderation.  We hadn’t been away for a weekend since PMC 2016, and now we were going to be away two weekends in away.  Don’t you worry-  there were no complaints (at least not from us!)

It took a minute or two for us to come up with a plan for this particular weekend.  I mean, when was the last time we had an entire weekend, almost completely unplanned?  We had agreed to a time share presentation, but other than that- the time was all ours.

What else would we do?  We got tickets for two shows (Waitress, and Dear Evan Hansen), and made reservations for two dinners, and two brunches.  I mean, was there really any question?

All in all, the weekend was a success.  Both shows were wonderful, but Dear Evan Hansen was really on another level.  As much as we enjoyed the shows, the real victory was in the restaurants.  We went three for four on amazing meals, and atmospheres.  First up was Toloache, which delighted us with amazing food and service.  Everything (except the grasshopper taco) was delicious…  the grasshopper taco was just too salty for our taste.  Our second dinner was at Club A Steakhouse.  The atmosphere was amazing, or I imagine it would have been if we weren’t the only ones in there.  We made a very early reservation, since we had show tickets, and for a while, we were the only patrons.  This resulted in a line of wait staff, all focused on us, and our eating.  Not normally an issue, but they made no attempt to pretend otherwise.  They were literally lined up, staring at us.  Awkward.

The brunches put us over the edge.  We started at Cookshop.  Everything about that place was amazing.  We have already decided to return there when we are in NYC with Oma and Opa later this year. We were seated outside, with a view of the Highline.  As you can imagine, we had no choice, but to take a stroll after our indulgences.

Just before returning home on Sunday, we had one final brunch- this one a more traditional brunch.   We went to Pardon My French, because I pick my brunch restaurants like I pick my wine- by name, or label. So adorable, with delicious food, and wonderful service.  It looked like rain was on the way, so we chose to sit inside, and sure enough, the rains came.  The staff handled this situation with grace and class, filling the dining room with all the patrons who had been seated outside.  We barely noticed.

We left that weekend feeling completely refreshed, and reconnected.

In addition to all the good food and entertainment, we also found ourselves in the audience for a fantastic cover band at The Mean Fiddler.  We ducked in there after Waitress, because we weren’t ready to call it a night, and it was right next door.  It was exactly what we were looking for.  What fun.

As for the PMC, we had a wonderful time, as usual.  We changed up our typical schedule this year- staying much longer at the Mass Maritime Academy, before heading to our hotel.  We were having too much fun with our PMC family to leave!  We also checked out a new (and noteworthy) restaurant on our way back from Provincetown-  The Bookstore & Restaurant.  Don’t worry, we also stopped for our annual visit to Arnolds, and played a TON of minigolf!

I’m glad we had a chance to reconnect over these two weekends, and we really hope to continue these traditions-  just maybe not back to back!

With a few weddings coming up this fall/winter- we’ll hopefully have a chance to do just that!
