Baby Steps

We had some lofty goals, as you know.  We wanted to raise our children to see the world, and learn first hand to appreciate other cultures.  We had it all planned out.

Those plans crumbled around us when we learned we were pregnant with TWINS.  After two and a half months, we decided it was time to work on piecing them back .

I remember that first Family Field Trip-   Lunch…

We packed up our crew, got them loaded in the car, and realized we forgot the diaper bag.  I ran in to get the diaper bag, and noticed it was out of diapers.  I grabbed some diapers… and remembered that they had used the extra set of clothes we keep in the diaper bag.

I ran upstairs to get some more clothes, and saw their favorite toys.  I grabbed those, just in case, and by the time I made it back out to the car, they were ready to eat again.

Lesson 1.  It works best if the babies are the last ones packed up to go!

When we finally got to the restaurant, they immediately sat us right by the door- as if they knew just how volatile this situation was.  We were barely seated when the server appeared behind the host to take our drink orders.

He returned within minutes to deliver our beverages, and take our lunch orders.  I’m not sure we had even finished ordering our food when it suddenly materialized before our eyes.

We were back in our car and headed home about a half hour after we walked through the front doors.

Like any other trip, no amount of planning could rival some good old fashioned experience. We agreed to make Sunday our family day, and each week we planned a different outing for our Family Field Trip.  We did lunch a few more times until we felt we had a good system, and were ready to venture out to try something new.
