Breakfast #2.
Ski Day #2.
Day Care Day #2.
Here we go.
We started off the day with a much better breakfast experience. On Sunday, with no real time constraints, we stopped by the Main Dining Room for our morning nourishment.
Hands down, the best decision yet. We were seated immediately, and wasted no time heading to the buffet. We were completely impressed by every morsel. The kids did a lot better at a table, and the staff were all personable and attentive.
To top it off, we had a visit from Santa while eating breakfast.
Santa came to each table, and spent time talking to every child. Of course, ours weren’t quite sure what to think of Santa up close- They did slightly better with Santa this year, but they are still skeptics. Will full bellies, we asked bell services to call us a shuttle, and we made our way back to Bretton Woods.
Drop off went just as smoothly on Day 2, which is a huge relief.
The weather was as wet and soggy as expected. I spent some quiet time in the lodge as TT Dad set off to check the slopes. It wasn’t long before he returned to me, and let me know that he was pretty sure I wouldn’t be interested in lacing up my boots in that weather. The slopes were the exact opposite of Saturday. On Saturday we had fluffy, powdery, fresh snow. Sunday was an icy mess, according to TT Dad.
I went down to return my skis, and was met by profuse apologies that they were unable to refund me for the second (unused) day. I let them know I was warned- and it was not their fault I decided to be stubborn!
TT Dad did a little more skiing, and then we ended up back at the Omni. We explored the hotel, stopping in for a snack and a drink at a few different establishments. We even found a few minutes to soak in the hot tub.
In addition to my Spa service on Saturday night, we had arranged for a babysitter on Sunday.
It isn’t often that we decide to book a babysitter when we’re out of town, but we have found that most hotels have a ‘preferred’ list of babysitters, either made of their childcare staff, or local sitters that have been used and approved in the past.
The Omni Mount Washington was different than any other hotel we’d worked with. They both ended up more and less involved in the process than any hotel we’d seen before. Prior to our trip, we were asked to fill out a request form, including days and hours of care needed. Once they receive the request, they match you with a sitter that is available at that time. You are encouraged to complete a background check, and ask the sitter for references, as Omni denies any responsibility for, well, anything.
We gave it a shot, and ended up with a sitter that worked just fine.
First, we picked the kids up a little early, to feed them dinner, and get them in bed before the sitter arrived. They had such an amazing time at Fabyan’s, that I couldn’t wait to check it out. We returned to the old railrood station, and were met by a friendly face. We had the same server that they had the night prior.
Since TT Dad and I were planning to eat dinner later, we shared a salad, and the kids gobbled up their ‘mac cheese’. Once again, they were more than happy to devour a hoodsie cup, too!
By the time we returned to the room, they were happy to start getting ready for bed. We got them all tucked in, just in time for the sitter to arrive.
TT Dad and I tiptoed out of the room, and headed down to Stickney’s, where we had a different experience than the take-out version the night before! Once again, the staff was wonderful, and the food delightful. After eating, we continued our evening with a drink at The Cave- which was simply a fascinating place, full of history. It was the perfect ending to our night.
After a drink or two, we relieved the sitter, and finally climbed into bed, happy campers once again!
We didn’t leave much to chance on Monday. We went back to the Main Dining Room for breakfast, and then took our time packing up our things. The drive home went pretty smoothly, and we decided to stop at a Chipotle for lunch on the way- also a success.
The next thing we knew, our weekend was over, and we were back home- Our second ski weekend in the books!
Time to start planning for next year!
Come back Monday to read my final thoughts on the Omni Mt Washington & Bretton Woods!
