Bretton Woods

Friday was all travel, but we were determined to make the most of the rest of our stay.

We had signed the kids up for Full Day care on both Saturday & Sunday.  While planning, I decided I wanted to take a ski lesson on Saturday morning.  While we haven’t gotten the kids on skis yet, it’s only a matter of time- and I need as much of a head start as possible!

I signed up for a 9am lesson, since I wanted to get the most out of the day.  Child care opened at 8, and I was instructed to arrive at the ski school desk by 8.  We (okay, I) had a moment of panic, not knowing how to make it work, logistically.

While I knew he could handle it, I didn’t want to make TT Dad have to deal with dropping the kids (and all their snow gear for outdoor play) in addition to hefting his skis, poles, and gear to Bretton Woods- alone.  We ordered room service for breakfast, and were reminded once again that it isn’t a great idea to try to make toddlers eat in a room without a table and chairs.  They barely touched their food, but I knew they would have snack pretty soon, as well as a lunch, all provided by the facility.

Hands full, the four of us made our way down to the lobby.  The bellman called for the shuttle, and we were off.  Minutes later, we arrived at Bretton Woods, and were happy to see the Day Care was adjacent to the drop off location.  Anxiety at bay, I figured it wouldn’t be the end of the world if I was a couple of minutes less than a full hour early. We were clearly one of the first families in the door to drop off kids.  The staff was still getting settled, but they took care of us right away.

There was a lobby area, and the kids were in a room down a short hallway.  We spoke to the teachers, and expressed our concern about the kids being newly potty trained.  We left pull ups, in case they were needed for nap.

Hugs and Kisses, and off went Mommy to her lesson.  I had a wonderful lesson with RJ, and would recommend him for skiers at any level.  He was able to help me gain confidence, and improve my technique, which was all I could possibly ask for.

After our hour long lesson, I met back up with TT Dad, who had spent the hour going down some of the harder trails.

We went down the slopes together for a bit before heading in for a coffee/hot cocoa break. The conditions on Saturday were perfect.  It was cold enough that snow was falling, but not freezing! TT Dad went back to the slopes after our break, and I went to check on the kids.  I had to ask in the lobby, because there wasn’t any way for me to check in on them myself.  While it was open to the hallway, there were not outdoor windows that could see into the room, never mind any two-way mirrors.

The individual I spoke with checked on them, and let me know they would need more pull-ups.  They had both had accidents, and were upset.  Lesson learned-  in a new place, we needed to show the kids where the potty is, and introduce them to their teachers, letting them know who to tell when they have to potty.

Kids okay, it was time to get back to the slopes!  A couple more runs with TT Dad, and it was time for lunch.  TT Dad and I enjoyed a lunch date- without kids!  Those are so few and far between!  We were having a blast, and it seemed like our kids were, too, once the potty situation was no longer an issue.

After lunch, we had time for another run or two before it was time to pick up the kids.  I spoke with the rental office about extending my rental another day.  They warned me that the weather was not supposed to be very good for skiing, and I wouldn’t be able to get a refund if I didn’t want to ski.  I did not heed their warning, and added a day, which allowed me to leave the gear there overnight and not have to deal with getting fitted again in the morning.

We were excited to find two very happy, if very tired, kids.  They had taken a small nap, but as expected, it wasn’t their usual.

We picked them up early because Mommy had a massage booked in the spa- and again, all hands on deck made for a much smoother Bretton Woods/Omni transfer.  We got everyone back in time for me to get down to the spa, and TT Dad took the kids out for dinner.  They had a wonderful time at Fabyan’s Restaurant, which was originally an old railroad station.  It was the perfect place to bring a couple of tired, hungry kids.  Normally, I wouldn’t suggest taking them anywhere, but TT Dad is a little more adventurous than I am. They were able to finish their meal, and even enjoyed ice cream as dessert.

Meanwhile, I arrived nice and early for my massage, and was shown around the spa.  It was nearly empty, as I was the last treatment booked that night.  I was able to relax, enjoying the quiet and the comfortable lounge chairs.  I was a little disappointed there wasn’t plain old water available, or snacks, as I’ve seen in other spas, but the infused water was just as hydrating.

The massage was equally as enjoyable.  I came away saying it was probably the best massage I’d had, and I meant it.

I relaxed a bit after the massage as well-  to ensure the kids would be sleeping by the time I got back to the room, and it worked.

TT Dad and I ordered dinner from Stickney’s (a steakhouse, can you imagine?).

Tired out after such a wonderful day, we snuck into the bedroom, and fell right asleep.  We had another full day scheduled for tomorrow!!
