As 2016 was wrapping up, we made a last minute reservation at the Omni Mount Washington.
Ski Trips tend to be pretty easy to plan, making it the perfect spur of the moment weekend getaway. The biggest question is where to go.
In January of 2016, we spent a couple of nights at Smuggler’s Notch, in Jeffersonville, VT. We had such a great time, we decided to try to take a family ski trip at least once a year. If you’re curious about our trip to Smuggs, start here!
With this in mind, we were excited to find a weekend that was available for adventure.
Planning this trip, as I mentioned, started with the ‘Where.’
We knew we wanted to be able to get there Friday night, without TT Dad missing an entire day of work- so we were looking mostly at MA & NH. This narrowed down our search some, but not nearly enough.
With two year old, newly potty trained twins, our next order of business is to check out the day care options at each resort. Smugglers’ Notch was our first experience with non-recurring child care, and we were so impressed, we were looking to recreate our kid-free time together.
At this point, we were down to only a couple of resorts, since it was so last minute- and the Omni won. We were able to book a family room, which we were told would have a door between the master bedroom and living/social area.
Once that decision is made, we can move on to the ‘What’.
We would be arriving late on Friday, and leaving Monday morning. The kids were easy. We registered them for child care both Saturday and Sunday, each as a full day. Done!
TT Dad was also pretty easy. He is a pretty good skiier, so a couple of days worth of ski passes, and he was set, too.
Next was TT Mom. I was a little more complicated. TT Dad was insisting that I book a spa treatment while we were there. We also wanted to plan a date night. We decided to do our date night on Sunday, and that left Saturday for my spa night… Okay by me! I’ll likely be pretty tired out from a day on the slopes, and a massage will absolutely help me be ready to hop back on those skis on Sunday. This meant TT Dad would be doing bedtime solo.
We contacted the hotel to see about a Date night babysitter, and while they don’t actually recommend any babysitters, they can give you a list of babysitters previously used, along with their applications and references. Many phone calls later, we setted on one particular babysitter, and the hotel contacted her to work out the details.
Last on the list was that whole ‘ski’ part. I’m barely proficient on skis, so I wanted to take a lesson before heading out on my own. I was able to book a 45 minute long private lesson, starting just after the day care drop off time. Perfect.
With all of our plans booked, we hit the road. Stay tuned to see how it goes!
