Next up, we had another ‘extended stay’ with Oma and Opa.
Our visit would begin with the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the soon-to-be mama, Auntie A!
We would be in NC for about 2 weeks, starting with the shower, and staying through Thanksgiving. We were so excited to be able to come and share in this occasion. Unfortunately, our littles weren’t cooperating, and decided they didn’t want to take a nap that day.. this led to cranky cranky kiddos, instead of their usual charming selves.
We still had a lovely time, and this little girl is so so loved.
The weather was amazing during our visit, so we spent a lot of time walking on the beach, and we made it to the pier for the first time!
We found time to check out Power of Play, in Wilmington. For $8 per child (good all day, including re-entry), the kids gained access to a very large warehouse of fun. There were outdoor playscapes to climb, swing, and slide on, a large structure to climb on, and multiple themed areas, sectioned off from each other, with half-walls, allowing for me to watch both kids even if they were in different areas. Brilliant.
This was $16 well spent. They were two of 4 or 5 kids in the whole place, so they were able to roam as they please, and explore the entire place without having to wait for a turn.
This will definitely be tops on our list of rainy day activities, as they get older and their energy levels have increased!
Another fun experience during this visit was Wilmington Riverfest. Typically Riverfest is earlier in the year, but weather had forced a ‘rain date’ this year.
The street fair was a perfect way to spend the day, between the craft booths, fair food, exhibitiions, and more! The kids loved watching other kids ride their bikes and do tricks, but the big hit was their first experience in a bouncy house.
Another first- They used a port-o-potty for the first time!
We successfully completed our first street fair as potty trained toddlers with zero accidents. Milestone!
At this point, the kids were definitely having a lot of potty success. The accidents were extemely rare, but I was still having a hard time trusting the process, and trusting them. This trip, especially, was spent with a lot of potty reminders, and prompts, which probably set the whole process back quite a bit. I wasn’t allowing them to initiate, but Oma and Opa have too many nice things for us to let them go too much 😉
All in all, the trip was a success. Any time spent with Oma, Opa, Auntie A, and Uncle N is always welcome.
Watching the kids with each set of Grandparents is such a treat.
Before we knew it, it was time to go back home- we had another Moms of Multiples event coming up! Of course, we couldn’t leave without capturing at least one beautiful sunset on camera. Oma and Opa surprised us by putting up a little Christmas tree before we left, since we wouldn’t be there for Christmas this year!
We had a wonderful stay. We are so lucky to have such amazing family on both sides.
