Five Years Later

Five years ago, I woke up to rain.

The phone call came around 10am.  It was time to make the decision-  were we having our ceremony inside, or hoping it cleared up enough to be outside?

I looked at the rain coming down outside, and calmly said-  ‘Outside.’

Not the answer that was expected, understandably, but that’s never stopped me before.

It hasn’t stopped me since, either-  I mean… I had TWINS! Who does that?

It’s been a crazy five years.  We’ve certainly seen a lot of changes, individually, as a couple, and in our extended families! So much has changed that it’s a little difficult to try to put myself back in my wedding shoes.

We decided that our wedding was as much a celebration of our friends and families as it was for us, and so we tried to incorporate them in ways, both big and small.

Overall, it was an absolute blast.  We invited people to share the weekend with us-  from a Friday night bonfire, complete with a visit from Taco Pacifico (Tacos, Burritos, and a margarita machine!), as well as s’mores, and beverages, to Sunday’s breakfast, we wanted to spend as much time as possible with our friends and families.

The memories from our Interlaken Inn wedding weekend are amazing, but it went so fast- and we feel like we missed so much!

Five years later, we had the opportunity to experience a similar wedding-  as a guest!  My cousin was married a couple of weeks ago, and we had an absolute blast. We enjoyed every minute of the weekend-  we snuck in the first hike of the season, and the kids got to spend a lot of time with their cousins.

A lot of time was spent reminiscing about growing up close to my cousins, and appreciating how lucky we are that the duo will grow up so close to a set of their cousins.

It was at this wedding that I realized I no longer wonder if I’ll ever be more than ‘Mom’ again…  It’s just a matter of time.  These kids are growing so quickly, and before we know it, they’ll be in Nursery School.

They’ll be in Nursery school 2 days a week, and I’ll have a couple of hours to myself.   It’s not so far off anymore.

Only took two and a half years.

Five years married, and our kids are two and a half.  As of tomorrow, we’ve been married parents longer than we were married and kidless.  We worked hard to make sure we took advantage of our time together, prior to kids, but it amazes me how quickly our goals have shifted to make sure we have incredible experiences as a family.

We’re still tossing expectations overboard, five years later.  I hope we continue for another 50 years (and more!)

No one was rained on, back on May 5th, 2012…  Outdoor Ceremony success.  No rain, lots of smiles, and overwhelming love.  Who could ask for more?
