Small Step for Daddy, Giant Leap for Mom Kind. 2

April was full of fun daycations and we really enjoyed being tourists in our own state. Before the month was over, however, we had at least one more trick up our sleeves.

I had the opportunity to spend my first night away from the duo.  A dear friend of mine was getting married (actually, four of my close friends, with 3 of them in 2016!), and her bachelorette party was an overnight in Mystic, CT.  I won’t lie… it didn’t take much encouragement from TT Dad to have me agreeing to share a hotel room with my ladies.

We had an amazing day, snacking and tasting at Jonathan Edwards Winery, followed by some shenanigans at the hotel before heading to dinner at Red36.  Delicious meal, fantastic views, and wonderful service.  Next up, we found ourselves singing karaoke at a little bar nearby. It was the perfect evening of fun for our bride-to-be!
Before I knew it, I was waking up, successfully completing my first childless night in 18 months.  It was much easier than I had expected!

I was able to squeeze in one final mom-only moment, and treated myself to a pedicure before meeting TT Dad and Pops at the Mystic River Park Playground.  We found this playground on OutAndAboutMom.com.  OAAM has become a great resource for us when traipsing around CT.  The blog details many museums, parks, playgrounds, and other child-friendly outings around the state, focusing on things only a mom would notice and/or care about-  is it fenced in? Age range? Shaded? Bench for parents?  Potty?

It turns out I was the only one who seemed to think the night was a big step.. the kids barely noticed when I joined them at the playground!  TTDad provided us with a picnic lunch, and then we were off to Essex, CT, to join Thomas for his Day Out.
The event was quite impressive.  Once you had your tickets, all rides were included.  TTDad and I took the kids down the giant slide, and we took one ride on the carousel, before we went over to meet Sir Topham Hatt.  These two weren’t all that interested in actually meeting him, but they couldn’t get enough of the train table in the room.

It was finally our turn for the train ride!

Did I mention just how much these two love trains?  I’m pretty sure the day became known as their Best Day ever.  Day Out with Thomas may have to become an annual event!

They didn’t have much time to bask in the glow of the day.. we had another trip coming up quick!

Just wanted to say a quick hi from one twin mom to another! Congrats on your night of freedom (that is HUGE) and thanks for linking back to our post on the Mystic River Playground. I’m so happy to hear that our blog has inspired some of your outings.
